How to convince your boss you need to attend Berlin Buzzwords

Would you like to go to Berlin Buzzwords but you need some arguments to convince your boss that you need to go? Please see our page "Berlin Buzzwords in a nutshell" to give you some guidance. If that is not enough, we have compiled some additional support below:

  1. Make yourself familiar with the conference in general, with the schedule, and have a look at who else is attending using our conference app (Google Play | Apple App Store).

  2. Check out who is speaking and have a look at our partners to see if there is any added value you can offer with your visit to the conference, such as meeting new business partners, getting in touch with a speaker you always wanted to learn from, or how the conference program fits with your company‘s goals.

  3. Who can you network with at the conference? Maybe a potential customer, leading experts in your field, or you could keep track of your company's competitors. Write down your expected networking opportunities and how they can benefit your company. It would be great if you could name specific people and why you should meet them.

  4. If you think your participation at the conference might have a negative impact on your work, you can come up with a proposal to reduce it, e.g. if you think you might fall behind your tasks while being at the conference, you could propose to work some overtime beforehand to make up for it.

  5. Now that you know why you want to attend and how it benefits your employer, make a quick calculation of the financial costs your company would have to cover. Ticket + travel + accommodation = all the benefits compiled in step 2 and 3

    • If you work in one of the German states Berlin, Brandenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate or Saarland take into account that Berlin Buzzwords is certified as an educational event which is applicable for educational leave

  6. Present the results to your boss: Which topics can you learn about at #bbuzz that align with your company’s goals? Think about the skills necessary to do your job and which talks you can attend to improve them. Make a list of the top talks you came up with and the corresponding skills.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Berlin Buzzwords!
