Call for Papers for the Micro-Summit this November for “FOSS Backstage" open!

As previously announced during berlinbuzzwords, we are working on a new conference scheduled for next summer in Berlin. The conference has an official name now - “FOSS Backstage”! The summit comprises of everything related to FOSS governance and open collaboration, including thoughts on how to build and manage communities within the open source space.

We are hosting a Micro-Summit this fall to get prepared for the conference, especially in terms of the content.
Date: November, 20th, 2017
Location: Europace AG, Klosterstr. 71, 10179 Berlin
Submission URL: https://goo.gl/forms/7jpEPy29HVY81DYh2

The event will comprise presentations on all things FOSS governance, decentralized decision making and open collaboration. We invite you to submit talks on the topics:

  • FOSS project governance, collaboration, community management
  • asynchronous/ decentralized decision making
  • vendor neutrality in FOSS, sustainable FOSS, cross team collaboration
  • dealing with poisonous people
  • project growth and hand-over
  • trademarks
  • strategic licensing

While we are primarily expecting contributions from FOSS people, we would also love to learn more about how typical FOSS collaboration models work within enterprises. Closely related topics, not explicitly listed above, are welcome as well.

Important Dates (all dates in GMT +2)
Submission deadline: September 10th 2017, 23:59
Notification of accepted speakers: September 17th, 2017
Publication of final schedule: October 1st, 2017
Conference: November 20th 2017

We are expecting high quality in both principles and practice. We are looking for real world case studies, background on the social architecture of specific projects and a deep dive into cross community collaboration.

Proposals should be submitted here no later than September 10th, 2017. Feedback will be sent out soon after the submission deadline. Please include your name, bio and email, the title of the talk as well as a brief abstract in English.

We have originally planned for the talks to last 45 min. However you are free to submit your own ideas on how to shape the event. If you would like to take our attendees out to show them your favorite bar in Berlin, please submit this offer through the CfP form.

If you are interested in sponsoring the event (e.g. would be happy to provide videos after the event, free drinks for attendees as well as an after-show party), please contact us via the email below.

Program Chairs: Isabel Drost-Fromm and Stefan Rudnitzki. If you would like to help sort through submissions please do get in touch.

Schedule and further updates on the event will be published soon.

Please share this CfP with people who might be interested.
